Giving Turf A Second Life: A Sustainable Outcome for SA

Gladys Elphick Park (Park 25), Adelaide SA • March 2026

Our team delivered a specialised turf removal and relocation project at Gladys Elphick Park (Park 25) as part of early works for the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital in South Australia.

The scope involved carefully removing and repurposing 3,400m² of high-quality Kikuyu turf – ensuring a valuable resource was preserved and reused rather than lost during construction. Through this approach, the project successfully prevented approximately 115 tonnes of carbon from entering landfill, contributing to a measurable and meaningful environmental outcome.

Working alongside key project stakeholders including SA Water, McConnell Dowell and South Australian Cricket Association (SACA), we were involved in the full turf removal process – from precision cutting and rolling through to palletising and preparing the turf for transport and reinstallation.

Maintaining turf integrity throughout removal and handling was critical to ensure successful establishment at its new locations, while operating efficiently within the constraints of a restricted worksite.

Safety remained central throughout delivery. Working on a busy site alongside multiple contractors required clear communication, strong site awareness, and strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure smooth, incident-free operations.

The outcome extended well beyond the project site. Instead of contributing to landfill, the turf has now been redistributed across South Australia, including to the Adelaide Botanic Garden, local councils, schools, and community reserves – where it will continue to provide long-term environmental and community value.

Projects like this highlight our capability to deliver specialised, one-off works that don’t fit the standard mould. From early works and site preparation through to unique projects or remote locations, we support contractors, councils, and government organisations with practical, outcome-focused solutions.

We’re proud to play a hands-on role in projects that balance operational efficiency with sustainability and community benefit – turning potential waste into long-term value.

If you’re planning a project that requires a reliable team capable of delivering non-standard or complex scopes, get in touch to see how we can assist.
